Abstract
Abstract
This administrative supplement will support activities during the final year of U01 funding to promote adoption
and effective of the Population Cancer Assessment and Surveillance Engine (PopCASE) tool. Our team is in
month 21 of a three-year U01-funded project (U01CA284198) through the Informatics Technology for Cancer
Research (ITCR) program. That project entails building PopCASE, a tool that spatially links patient-level
cancer registry data for a population with granular community-level data (social, economic, health system,
infrastructure, etc.) in a standardized data model. PopCASE provides a user-friendly query tool to facilitate
quick searching and data set creation by researchers and community outreach professionals. It is designed to
advance the pace and breadth of population cancer research and catalyze action to improve population cancer
outcomes. The work of the administrative supplement will separately target user communities based at both
academic cancer centers and central cancer registries, and will entail 1) creating a set of multimedia online
educational resources including promotional videos informing cancer center and cancer registries decision
makers of the advantages of PopCASE adoption as well as instructional videos for users at both types of
organizations; 2) creating a dedicated PopCASE webpage within our Case Comprehensive Cancer Center
website that will house overview information about the application, system requirements for implementation,
links to promotional and training videos, and an online form for requesting additional information; and 3)
building an online “sandbox” environment where interested parties can explore the PopCASE user interface or
where adopting organizations can train their users. We will also disseminate our PopCASE development work
through two additional national meetings separately targeting cancer center leaders and cancer registry
leaders. The supplement includes a robust evaluation plan for assessing reach, user engagement, educational
material usability, educational effectiveness, and organization adoption readiness.
